When the heat becomes unbearable, there are hoards of  people seizing the opportunity to make straight for the sea and “the sea” for Rome is synonymous with Ostia.

Â

The Lido di Ostia is in fact the seaside resort closest to the capital and, packed with beach establishments, hotels, restaurants and sailing clubs, it is the Romans’ favourite.
Built in the early twentieth century,  Ostia was twinned with Rome in the Thirties, turning into a well-connected suburb of the capital where architects and engineers designed a series of modern buildings, piazzas and beach establishments.

Â

In recent years a new Port has blossomed in Ostia with boats of every shape and size, a haven for sea travellers from all over the world to call in at Rome and enjoy all its wonders without  having forsake the benefits and attractions of the sea.Â
