Studio Temp - Tempus Fugit

In the section devoted to the free creativity of the most innovative international graphic designers, the MACRO museum continues its investigation into experimentation with an exhibition conceived by Studio Temp, a graphic design studio founded by Guido Daminelli, Marco Fasolini and Fausto Giliberti in 2007 in Bergamo, Italy.

The studio is primarily concerned with type-design, visual identity, editorial graphics and web design; its visual research focuses on a process of simplification of form, contaminated by pop graphics and eclectic historical references ranging from Japanese comic strips of the 1980s to the graphics of racing vehicles and rally cars of the 1960s. Shunning repetitive processes and formats, the studio develops projects that utilize craft techniques to generate materials that always conserve both characteristic and differentiating features.

The title of the exhibition – Tempus Fugit (time flees) – comes from an inscription of an antique pendulum clock they have in their studio, where it marks the rhythm of the working day, which is reproduced out of scale inside the exhibition space. The practice of displacing and reinterpreting a symbol is also employed to generate objects that dialogue with the language of graffiti and Roman history in order to put the museum in dialogue with the city context. For example, the carpeting on the floor reproduces the TEMP logo, enlarged and endlessly repeated so as to reflect the invasion of space mentality typical of graffiti and tag culture, while the eight wall plaques are inspired by the typical format and style of Rome’s stone signage.
