2023 Spring FAI Days

An incredible Spring weekend dedicated to beauty - to be protected and shared - and the hidden treasures of Italy, with a program that touches 400 cities and 750 places little-known or not usually accessible. 

This year, the FAI Days celebrate "Thirty One" Springs: from 1993 to the last edition, 14,090 places of history, art and nature have been opened and visited by over 11,600,000 citizens, thanks to the 145,500 volunteers and 330,000 students "Apprentice Tour Guides” who have opened the doors to an invaluable heritage of history, art and nature of the peninsula.

The event confirms itself as an unmissable appointment to discover palaces, villas, churches, castles and villages, museums and archaeological areas, libraries, industrial archaeology buildings and artisan workshops, military sites, but also parks, gardens and courtyards, shown and told by the young people of the Italian Environmental Fund through visits with free contributions starting from 3 euros for supporting the activities of the FAI. You can also contribute to enhancing and protecting the Italian artistic and cultural heritage by registering with FAI online or in the various squares of Italy during the event. 

In Rome, special openings involve sites of valuable artistic interest and rare beauty: the monumental Palazzo Piacentini-Vaccaro, headquarters of MIMIT; Palazzo della Radio, famous Rai headquarters since 1954; the Giacomo Acqua Barracks in Piazza del Popolo, renewed in the first half of the 19th century by Valadier and today Lazio Carabinieri Regional Command's headquarters; Villa Lubin in Villa Borghese, an elegant example of neo-baroque and liberty style, today the offices of the National Council for Economics and Labour; The Astronomical Observatory of Rome on the slopes of Monte Mario, one of the panoramic points of the city; Villa Wolkonsky, an elegant 19th-century residence with a romantic garden, today the official residence of the British ambassador in Rome, and the 18th-century Villa Bonaparte, the first example of neoclassical architecture in Rome, the seat of the French Embassy to the Holy See. At the gates of Rome, you can visit the Park of Villa Gregoriana in Tivoli, a jewel of extraordinary archaeological and naturalistic value; the Castrum Novum in Santa Marinella, an ancient Roman maritime colony of 264 BC; the Library of the Abbey of San Nilo in Grottaferrata, the last medieval Byzantine monastery in Italy; the splendid landscape of the Valle del Sorbo and the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Sorbo, with the ancient monastery and the 15th-century church.
