Cabin Art: when street art boosts urban renewal

von 30 Januar 2023 bis 31 August 2023

Colorful, fun and often unexpected, it transforms the city and its buildings into large canvases on which to transfer shapes, images and thoughts and tell something interesting. In addition to being a viable alternative to art kept in museums, however, street art is also a tool for urban redevelopment projects with often surprising results. This is the idea behind the Cabin Art project, promoted by the Ufficio di Scopo Politiche Giovanili in collaboration with Zètema Progetto Cultura to inject life into six Local Police cabins: disused structures isolated from the urban context, which are culturally enhanced a new value by involving them in an art dialogue with the great and eternal beauty of Rome.

Creativity and talent, but not only. The six proposals selected by a Roma Capitale commission, composed of experts from MAXXI and the Capitoline Superintendency, aspire to enhance the relationship with the territory while respecting cultural, historical and artistic heritage, but also to make people reflect on issues related to the environment, nature and sustainability, integration and respect for differences. The cabin redesigned by the young artists are scattered throughout the city: Ianus by ADR and Up do You by BiceLuna in the city center (Via Petroselli and Piazza Vittorio, respectively); Pattern Geometrico by the art duo Motorefisico in Piazza Carpegna; The Pinkish Box by Vittorio Pannozzo between Circonvallazione Gianicolense and Via Ottavio Gasparri; Al suono di Roma by Leonardo Crudi on Piazzale Labicano; Rifiorire by NIAN on Via Casilina/Via di Tor Pignattara.

Each artistic intervention is accompanied by a caption with the references of the work and the initiative and a QR Code through which to access on the web all the content regarding the Cabin Art project.
