The fascinating Garden of Sant’Alessio all’Aventino, from 1 to 26 July, hosts the XXIX Edition of Pirandelliana 2025, a theatre festival organized by the Theatre Company La bottega delle maschere, directed by Marcello Amici. The event has always been one of the most important and unmissable theatre events of the Roman Summer. Begun in 1997 in the Roman Theatre of Ostia Antica, since 1999 the event has moved to the Garden of the Basilica of Sant’Alessio all’Aventino, a silent and evocative place.
At the centre of this year’s program are three female figures who alternate throughout the week in the three comedies Tutto per bene (All good), Il giuoco delle parti (The game of parts), Il berretto a sonagli (The bell hat), who are Palma, Silia, Beatrice. The main themes of the comedies performed are respectively that of the elusive truth and the search for what each person really is compared to what instead appears in the illusory game of life in Il giuoco delle parti; the impossibility of love, loneliness and filial affection, the violence suffered and the saving rebirth in Tutto per bene; madness as a mask of the unspeakable truth and the unmasking of social fiction in Il berretto a sonagli.
