PalaTiziano - Palazzetto dello Sport

Situated between the bold contemporary architecture of the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone and the Maxxi - Museo Nazionale delle Arti del XXI secolo (National Museum of the 21st Century Arts), a short distance from the Olympic Stadium and the prestigious Foro Italico Complex, PalaTiziano is a multifunctional facility suitable for hosting sports competitions, concerts, and shows.

Built between 1956 and 1957 to host part of the events related to the 1960 Rome Olympics, such as boxing matches - and the following years the home matches of the Capitoline basketball and volleyball teams - the Palazzetto dello Sport was conceived and designed by architect Annibale Vitellozzi and engineer Pier Luigi Nervi, author among others of the Palazzo dello Sport in the EUR district (1957-59), the Leonardo da Vinci International Airport (1957) and the historical Stadio Flaminio (1957-59).

Started in July 1956, the construction works ended on 15 September 1957; the inauguration took place on 1 October of the same year.

The white dome of the structure, which suggestively dialogues with the millenary dome of the Pantheon, has a diameter of about 78 metres and is characterised by the Y-shaped trestles that support its weight; the total area of the facility is around 4,800 square metres.

After a long period of disuse and decay, the Palazzetto dello Sport was finally reopened in October 2023, following careful restoration and renovation work costing more than EUR 5 million. The venue, which currently hosts the home matches of Roma Volleyball Club (Serie A1 - women's volleyball), Oxygen (Serie A1 - women's basketball) and Luiss Basket (Serie A2 - men's basketball), will also be dedicated to other types of events in 2024 and will be able to accommodate over 3,000 people.
