The show Avremo ancora l’occasione di ballare insieme (We will still have the opportunity to dance together) is inspired by the couple Marcello Mastroianni and Giulietta Masina in the roles of Pippo and Amelia, an elderly and now forgotten couple of tap dancers, in Federico Fellini's film Ginger and Fred. Pippo and Amelia (played in the show by the actor-dancers Daria Deflorian and Antonio Tagliarini) meet again after many years to participate in a nostalgic television variety show.
The title takes up, reversing it, a farewell phrase that Amelia says to Pippo at the end of the film: "I don't think we will still have the opportunity to dance together" indicating in this case a renewed chance of meeting and a dialogue between the couple. On stage, the three couples meet, dancing together and mirroring each other, the one ideally formed by Marcello Mastroianni and Giulietta Masina which overturns into that of Pippo and Amelia, in turn projected onto Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.
In the end we see three generations and three different periods reliving and confronting each other on stage as in one of the dreamlike visions characteristic of the art of the great master of cinema.
