Officially started with the opening of the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica on 24 December 2024, the Jubilee 2025 is the 27th ordinary universal jubilee in the history of the Church and the second jubilee inaugurated by Pope Francis after the extraordinary one in 2015.
The entire jubilee period is characterized by a rich calendar of religious, cultural and social events. Aside from celebrations and rituals addressed to all the faithful, the Holy Year’s program includes several “jubilees” dedicated to different categories of people, identified according to specific professions or their role within the family, the Church and society. Each one includes moments of dialogue and spirituality, with a concluding mass celebrated by the pope or a delegate.
The days from 27 October to 1 November are addressed in particular to the world of Catholic schools, universities and faculties. The program is organized by the Dicastery for Culture and Education. It includes four events presided over by Pope Leo XIV: the celebration of the beginning of the academic year with universities and pontifical institutions on Monday 27 October in St Peter’s Basilica; the audience with students on Thursday 30 October and the audience with educators on Friday 31 October (both in the Paul VI Hall) and finally Mass on Saturday 1 November in St Peter’s Basilica (at 10 a.m.). On 31 October, at the end of the meeting with educators, participants can experience the pilgrimage and the passage through the Holy Door together.
A space dedicated to discussion, reflection and sharing is the Village of Education set up around St Peter’s during the days of the Jubilee. On Thursday 30 October, the Auditorium Conciliazione will host the international conference “Educational Constellations - A Pact with the Future”. On 30 and 31 October, the church of San Lorenzo in Piscibus will host “The School of the Heart” with moments of prayer and paths of spiritual exploration. On 31 October, in the Corsie Sistine of the monumental complex of Santo Spirito in Sassia, it will be possible to participate in an original immersive artistic and cultural journey on the meaning of education, while the nearby Saint Pius X Hall will host and recount educational experiences from around the world.
