In the Palazzo del Collegio Romano (Palace of the Roman College), built between 1581 and 1584 as the headquarters of the Society of Jesus founded by Saint Ignatius of Loyola, a rare jewel unknown to most opens its doors to the public starting from February.

The Palace hosts today the Liceo Visconti and the Ministry of Culture: located in the latter block, the Sala della Crociera is home to one of the branches of the Library of Archeology and History of Art. The Sala is part of the original late 16th-century building, as evidenced, among other things, by the coat of arms of Pope Gregory XIII on the entrance portals and vaults. It holds magnificent bookshelves with rare volumes, and preserves intact the cozy atmosphere of the Major Library, where the friars and students of the prestigious institute of the Roman College once studied.

Visitors will admire its beautiful spaces, as well as some of its precious antique books: the visits are part of a global relaunch program of the Library of Archeology and History of Art planned by the new VIVE Institute to enhance its structure and library collections.
