One of the legends of the world music scene, returns to Rome for an extraordinary concert at the Auditorium Parco della Musica accompanied by a quintet of talented Italian musicians.
The refined interpreter takes the stage to perform some of her most famous pieces with an outstanding young ensemble specially created for the event: Claudio Filippini on the piano, Mirco Rubegni on the trumpet, Michele Polga on the saxophone, Rosa Brunello on the double bass and electric bass, and Evita Polidoro on the drums.
Born in Memphis in 1950 with the name of Denise Eileen Garrett, Dee Dee then took the surname of her ex-husband, the trumpeter Cecil Bridgewater. The singer made her debut in New York in 1970 with Thad Jones and Mel Lewis's big band. Then, she started a musical journey that led her to collaborate with great artists, such as Sonny Rollins, Dizzy Gillespie, Dexter Gordon, Max Roach and Roland Kirk. The Italian consecration took place in 1989 with Till The Next Somewhere (Precious Thing), sung as a super guest together with Ray Charles at the Sanremo Music Festival.
Bridgewater has always been an eclectic artist: musical actress - from The Wiz to Lady Day - and interpreter of various musical genres, she is considered one of the few heirs to the great female jazz voices. Her remarkable career has earned her several awards. Among them are a Tony Award for The Wiz and three Grammy Awards - two for Dear Ella and one for Eleanora Fagan (1915-1959): To Billie With Love From Dee Dee, dedicated to Billie Holiday with whom the singer has always had a deep connection.
