A reflection on the relationship with the Other through a meditation on animals and the ecosystems in which they live: the show staged at the Teatro India by the dancer and choreographer Annamaria Ajmone, a renowned interpreter of the contemporary scene, is a solo performance that takes its cue from the practice of tracing animals outlined by French philosopher Baptiste Morizot in the essay Sur la piste animale.
The exercise of following the trails crossed by wild animals in the woods and forests is reflected in the structure of the performance: the dance unfolds in a series of experiments that break down and recompose the art of tracing and being traced, of searching and hiding, to identify new hypotheses of coexistence with nature. Signals and mysterious perceptive instruments, inspired by different species, constitute the connective tissue.
The title is taken from a letter by Emily Dickinson to Otis Lord. As it suggests, the animal and the vegetable merge in the dark space of the nocturnal forest; landslides and calls break the quiet. A forest neither virgin nor idealized, but technonatural, which includes and transforms the signs left by its inhabitants. Conceived together with Stella Succi, the performance is enriched by sets, styling and images with a strong visual impact by Natália Trejbalová, with costumes by Jules Goldsmith and music by Flora Yin Wong.
