From October 16 to 18, 2026, Tor Fiscale Park will become the ideal setting for the Roman Historical Group's reenactment of the ancient Roman ceremony of the Armilustrium, when weapons were laid down and war gave way to peace and harmony.
The event includes three days of reenactments, ceremonies, educational workshops, music, scenes from everyday life, and activities for families and schools, with the aim of bringing history to life and transmitting its values to new generations.
The religious ceremony, which in ancient Rome occurred on October 19th, was closely tied to the cult of the god Mars: the sacred weapons of the god (ancilia and hastae), which had been removed from the shrine of Mars on March 1st, at the beginning of the wartime, were returned there on October 19th, in preparation for the winter break, a period during which traditionally there was no fighting. The ceremony therefore consisted primarily of a rite of purification of the weapons (armilustrium), which were then returned to the shrine, and included a gathering on the Aventine Hill with processions, torches, and sacrificial animals, along with dancing priests of Mars - the Salii - and the sound of trumpets (tubae).
The Pax Aeterna - Armilustrium project was among the winners of the Zètema Progetto Cultura 2026 Public Notice.
