Forrest Gump’s feather, Harry Potter’s magic wand, the Star Wars Stormtrooper helmet, Matrix bullet and Rocky’s boxing gloves. At the WeGil space in Rome, the cultural hub of the Lazio Region, over a hundred props from the sets of some of the greatest and most popular hits in cinema take us on a journey through the history of film and allow us to experience the magic of the big screen first-hand.
The exhibition is not only a collection of exciting memorabilia from the main cult films of recent decades, capable of winning a place in the hearts of viewers and becoming true icons. It is also and above all an excursion through film genres, including science fiction, adventure, horror and superheroes, giving rise to a layering of narratives: from simple memories of the film and its story to behind-the-scenes insights and the various crafts involved in cinema, costume design and special effects. Each object also tells the story of an artistic quest that, in just a few decades, has increasingly shifted towards the virtual and digital. Hence the importance of returning to tangible objects and reflecting on collecting and its evolution.
The exhibition is accessible thanks to multisensory panels placed along the exhibition route, with a selection of props made in transparent relief visual-tactile representations, complete with Braille captions. The audio description is in Italian/English.
