An atypical and versatile working as a performer, choreographer, curator and university researcher, Qudus Onikeku returns to the Romaeuropa Festival, bringing to the stage at the Teatro Argentina the final act of a trilogy that began with Re:INCARNATION (2021) and OUT OF THIS WORLD (2023).
Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Qudus Onikeku uses art to positively impact society, creating performances that don’t rely on Eurocentric approaches but respect and challenge Yorùbá culture and African diaspora dance forms. After studying in France, he returned to Lagos in 2014, where he and his partner Haji founded the QDance Center, a creative incubator for artistic development and community engagement.
With a cast of 16 artists from diverse cultural and disciplinary backgrounds, TERRAPOLIS combines dance, music, fashion and visual arts to explore the dynamics of contemporary youth culture and the relationships between human beings and the land they inhabit. At the heart of the show is Yorùbá culture, with its rituals, spirituality and philosophy enriching the performance with evocative sounds, movements and images. A visceral energy animates the scene, where the body and music become vessels for telling a reality in constant transformation, shaped by the interplay between past, present, and future.
