Rome’s Biciplan: a city to experience and discover by bike

von 8 Juli 2025 bis 30 November 2025

A more sustainable and bike-friendly city with over 1,500 kilometers of new cycle paths and a fleet of 4,300 pedal-assisted bikes, distributed across 408 stations. These are some of the long-term objectives of Rome’s new Biciplan, presented at the beginning of July as an integral part of the Urban Sustainable Mobility Plan (PUMS): an important project to transform Rome into a European cycling capital, a greener and quieter city with better-connected neighborhoods and routes designed for tourists and citizens.

The Biciplan defines the infrastructure, strategies and actions to promote cycling in Rome, increasing the number of kilometers of cycle paths and further enhancing the bike-sharing service. To enable everyone to get around easily and safely, it is necessary to create a modern and functional cycle network, integrated with public transport and capable of connecting the city center with the suburbs. It is a true urban vision, aimed at redesigning the city, making public spaces safer and promoting a healthier lifestyle, while reducing emissions into the atmosphere. In this way, Rome aims to become an ideal destination for sustainable tourism, promoting a way of visiting the city that respects the environment and enhances its cultural heritage, offering everyone the opportunity to enjoy an authentic and engaging experience.

Before the Biciplan is approved in November, there will be a participation phase until 8 September: citizens and associations can send their comments to biciplan@romamobilita.it. For more details on the Plan and related documents, visit the Roma Servizi per la Mobilità website.
