The second edition of Expodemic, the Festival of Foreign Academies and Cultural Institutes in Rome, which starts from the Palazzo delle Esposizioni and spreads throughout the city, opens in Rome.
The exhibition, curated by Lorenzo Benedetti, with the collaboration of Francesca Campana, has as its theme the close link between the birth and development of modern exhibitions and the history of the academies, both through the involvement of foreign artists currently resident, and through of historical documents.Rome in fact, not only hosts the highest number of international cultural centres, whose events have intertwined and developed since 1666 with the foundation of the French Academy, but it is also the place where modern exhibitions were invented. The exhibition itinerary also illustrates the importance of the relationship between the Palazzo Esposizioni and the foreign Academies and Cultural Institutes in Rome, highlighting their variety and diversity.
Among the artists present we remember: Kamrooz Aram, Ane Rodriguez Armendariz, Séverine Ballon, Jacopo Belloni, Alix Boillot, Susanne Brorson. Fatma Bucak, Pedro Luis Cembranos, Zachary Fabri, Hamedine Kane, Kapwani Kiwanga, Bjørn Melhus, Marko Nikodijevic, Tura Oliveira, Estefania Puerta Grisales, Chloé Quenum, Marie Robert and Sarina Scheidegger.
The exhibition is also enriched by a public program of meetings, performances and screenings hosted at Palazzo Esposizioni and by many exhibitions and events organized in the Academies and Cultural Institutes.
The exhibition is promoted by the Department of Culture of Rome Capital, organized by Azienda Speciale Palaexpo, with the collaboration of foreign Academies and Cultural Institutes in Rome.
