Scuola d’Arte e Mestieri - Arti Ornamentali

Scuola di Arazzo

Located in the historic center between Via del Corso and via del Babuino, the Scuola di Arti Ornamentali (School of Ornamental Arts) in via di San Giacomo was founded in 1885 and called the Scuola preparatoria al Museo Artistico Industriale (Preparatory School for the Industrial Artistic Museum).

Today, with the Nicola Zabaglia School of Art and Crafts, the Ettore Rolli School, and the Science and Technology School, it is one of four historical schools of Art and Crafts in Rome.

Among its most famous students we can mention Umberto Boccioni, Gino Severini, and Virgilio Guidi, while among the teachers, Luigi Bazzani, Cesare Biseo, and Domenico Bruschi.

Managed directly by the Municipality of Rome, through the use of equipped laboratories, it allows the acquisition and development of the essential techniques of art or trade in various sectors of applied art, including goldsmithing, fashion style and modeling, fashion modeling of clothing, weaving, tapestry, macrame, and bobbin lace.

The courses, which require the attendance of two or three afternoons a week, are held throughout the academic year; the activities are exclusively in the afternoon/evening.

Administered by highly specialized teachers, the training activity fits into the framework of the initiatives aimed at promoting and supporting adult lifelong learning attributed to local authorities by article 139 of Legislative Decree 112/98.
