In accordance with the provisions of the Dipartimento Tutela Ambientale (Department of Environmental Protection), and to coincide with the autumn blooms, the Rome's Rose Garden opens its gates on 25 October, inviting both rose enthusiasts and the simply curious to discover its extraordinary botanical collection.
Prepare to be amazed by the old, tea, Chinese and modern roses in bloom. And don’t miss the opportunity to admire the countless colours and shapes of the rose berries produced by the wild roses at this time of year.
Unique for its spectacular setting and offering magnificent views stretching from the Circus Maximus to the Palatine Hill, with the bell tower of Santa Maria in Cosmedin and the Vittoriano also in view, Rome’s Rose Garden is a haven of peace and harmony on the slopes of the Aventine Hill.
The upper part of the garden is home to more than a thousand varieties of old and modern roses from all over the world, from the Far East to South Africa, and from New Zealand to the Americas.
Some species date back as far as 40 million years, yet all are remarkable for their originality and beauty. The lower section of the Rose Garden is home to the roses entered in the ‘Premio Roma’ International Competition for New Rose Varieties, as well as the winners of previous editions.
The Dipartimento Tutela Ambientale of Roma Capitale offers free guided tours of the Rose Garden. Tours can be booked by emailing rosetoromacapitale@comune.roma.it or by calling 06 5746810.
The Rose Garden is open every day until Sunday 8 November, from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm, with free admission.
