A city that steals your heart and enchants your gaze: it is no coincidence, after all, that Roma spelled backwards reads Amor, meaning love. Love is also the theme of the events organised every year by the Capitoline Superintendency on Valentine’s Day: special visits, readings and itineraries in the museums run by Roma Capitale and around the city to discover famous or unusual characters, anecdotes and places.

On 13 February, the Museo delle Mura is organising an exclusive tour dedicated to lovers of all ages, while the following day, the Galleria d’Arte Moderna will accompany visitors on a journey of discovery through the different expressions of love in painting. The program for 14 February also includes a reading of the memoirs and correspondence of famous couples from the Risorgimento at the Museo della Repubblica Romana e della Memoria Garibaldina  and a special visit to the 18th-century Palazzo Braschi, a precious wedding gift from Pope Pius VI Braschi to his nephew Luigi and the noblewoman Costanza Falconieri. Love and union between different human species tens of thousands of years ago are the focus of the visit and thematic meeting at the Museo di Casal de’ Pazzi on 15 February. On the same day, among the magnificent ruins of the Villa of Maxentius, we will listen to a reading of love letters from the 1920s found on the ancient Via Appia.

The program also includes outdoor itineraries: the walking tour of the main street art works in the Pigneto district (13 February) and the theatrical reading of extracts by Latin authors at the Circus Maximus (22 February), recreating the atmosphere of the races and allowing us to relive the passions, romantic encounters and courtship rituals that took place in the stands.
