Founded in 1889, the museum conserves the most important archaeological collection in the world. At the moment the collection consists of different museums that collect the materials according to origin, nature and collection: Palazzo Massimo alle Terme, Palazzo Altemps, Crypta Balbi, Terme di Diocleziano.
