Istat - Istituto nazionale di ricerca is a public research body and the Italian leading producer of official statistics. Founded in 1926, the Institute has consistently and accurately monitored, measured and analysed the collective phenomena and key milestones that have transformed Italy.
Organised by Roma Capitale and Azienda Speciale Palaexpo, the free exhibition at the Palazzo Esposizioni marks the Institute’s centenary celebrations: a hundred years of history during which Istat’s journey has been constantly intertwined with that of Italy, making its wealth of data a true testament to the country’s shared memory. Images, documents, data, videos and interactive tools help to construct this narrative and convey its complexity, integrating design and technological innovation into the exhibition layout.
The narrative journey presents the scientific content in an accessible and original way, making it suitable for visitors of all ages. The opening section of the exhibition explores the evolution of the Institute, its data production, changes in methods and technologies applied to the development of statistics. The Sala Fontana, meanwhile, offers an immersive experience: thematic narratives that bring the country’s history to life through a hundred years of statistics. The exhibition is rounded off with interactive games and visualisations designed to encourage reflection on the importance of official statistics.
The exhibition is further enriched by multidisciplinary seminars that explore the present and future of official statistics, as well as educational workshops for young people and schools.
