Contemporary art and tradition, photography, painting, and textile art. Curated by Maria Giuseppina Monte and Martina Casadio, the exhibition at the Boncompagni Ludovisi House Museum is dedicated to Claudia Peill, an artist whose exhibition career spans from the 1990s to the present and whose focus has, from the very beginning, been on the relationship between painting and photography and on the combination of these two distinct artistic languages.
The exhibition presents to the public a body of work (almost all of it previously unseen) dating from the last two years of her artistic exploration, from 2024 to 2026, which highlights a detachment from the world of human life. Inspired by clouds and the sky, observed in their ever-changing, boundless, and indefinite nature, these works possess a more pronounced abstract quality and invite viewers to look upward and engage with an immeasurable celestial space.
The exhibition connects the artist’s work with the identity of the House Museum and its important collection of decorative arts and tapestries: the contemporary works do not merely occupy the museum’s spaces but enter into a dialogue with their surroundings, opening up new possibilities for interpretation. Enriching the exhibition experience is the tapestry-rug ORO-ROSA, a site-specific textile work created by Peill for the occasion. Here, the image of the sky transforms into a surface to be traversed, evoking the possibility of walking on clouds.
