From 9 October 2026 to 7 February 2027, the Scuderie del Quirinale are hosting the first major monographic exhibition dedicated to a leading figure in 16th-century Florentine painting.
A visionary and highly original artist, Jacopo Carrucci, known as Pontormo, marked the transition from the High Renaissance to Mannerism by reinterpreting classical models in innovative, unconventional ways. His extraordinary artistic language fascinated 20th-century artists and intellectuals, such as Pier Paolo Pasolini and Bill Viola, and continues to captivate collectors and art lovers worldwide with the power and uniqueness of his works.
In addition to numerous works from the Uffizi Galleries, visitors can admire important loans from international museums and collections – including Galleria dell’Accademia and the Bargello Museums, the Istituto Centrale per la Grafica, the Louvre, the National Gallery, the British Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Getty Museum in Los Angeles – which offer a comparative overview of the Tuscan painter’s oeuvre.
Curated by Cristina Acidini, with the support of Elena Capretti, Philippe Costamagna, Bruce Edelstein and Carlo Falciani, the exhibition path – which is primarily chronological and enriched by thematic insights – takes visitors on a journey through the artist’s world and brings together his most significant paintings, such as the famous Visitation, kept in the Church of San Michele Arcangelo in Carmignano, as well as a selection of works on paper.
Pontormo is organised by Ales – Scuderie del Quirinale in partnership with the Uffizi Galleries, and produced in collaboration with the publishing house Electa.
