Chora – The Void at the Origin DODI

The 41st edition of the Romaeuropa Festival opens with CHORA – The Void at the Origin, a new creation by Sofia Nappi for the KOMOCO dance company. After its world premiere at Theater Winterthur in Switzerland, the work has its Italian premiere on September 8, 2026, at the Auditorium Conciliazione in Rome, during the Festival's opening night. Also presented on the same evening is DODI, a 2021 duet among the composer's first creations, which has won numerous international awards.

Sofia Nappi, an internationally renowned choreographer whose work has been performed by major European companies and theaters, created a work in CHORA that invites us to return to the origins of movement and existence, exploring what precedes language and form. A dance where listening, breathing, gravity, and space become central, an expression of memory, tension, and potential; while gestures transform into volumes, pauses, and collective flows, revealing how emptiness is not absence, but possibility and creation. The evening opens with DODI, a short duet that explores the torment and poetry hidden in relationships with others. The name comes from the portmanteau of two terms: "Komorebi", a Japanese word describing the sunlight filtering through tree leaves, creating a beautiful dance.

Presented together in the same program, the two works offer a comprehensive overview of the evolution of Sofia Nappi's choreographic research, a research that simultaneously explores the torment and poetry hidden in relationships with others.
