Like every June, the Casa del Cinema's summer program returns with free outdoor screenings in the large arena surrounded by the greenery of Villa Borghese Park. This year, the "Ettore Scola" arena opens, paying tribute to the great director on the tenth anniversary of his death. The festival begins with the Dramma della gelosia (Drama of jealousy), the 1970 film that established the director as one of the undisputed masters of Italian cinema.
A total of four festivals are scheduled for the month. In addition to the aforementioned tribute to Ettore Scola, the event includes a series of films celebrating the legend of Marilyn Monroe, a century after her birth: starting Saturday, June 13th, "Marilyn 100" returns, featuring films by directors such as Howard Hawks, Billy Wilder, and Jean Negulesco.
To celebrate Mel Brooks's 100th birthday - on June 28th - the Casa del Cinema is screening two of his greatest hits, Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein.
The "Via terra" film festival also opens on June 14th, taking viewers on a fascinating cinematic journey with authors such as Gianni Amelio, Dennis Hopper, David Lynch, Dino Risi, and Ridley Scott.
This month's program ends with the fifth edition of the "Nouvelle Vague sul Tevere” - on July 2nd to 6th - featuring five days of French films and talks to celebrate the twinning of Rome and Paris.
Screenings, in the original language with subtitles, are daily starting at 9:00 PM.
