One of the greatest masterpieces of the 20th century, Einstein on the beach, the great classic by Philip Glass ever performed in Rome, was selected for the grand finale of the 37th edition of the Romaeuropa Festival.

In its musical version, the opera is performed in its entirety by musicians of the Belgian ensemble Ictus, accompanied by the baroque choir Collegium Vocale Gent and by Suzanne Vega in the role of narrator.

Einstein on the beach is a real physical and mental challenge for musicians who, for two hundred minutes in music, draw a time and a space of sharing with the public, structured by sound but characterized by a free and personal enjoyment.

The scenography, by the Dutch artist Germaine Kruip, is designed to erase the gap between the audience and the stage, as the doors of the theater will be open for the duration of the performance, the musicians are free to move on stage, and the audience to enter and exit the hall.

Einstein on the beach was first produced in Avignon in 1976 and later performed in Europe and at the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
