Village Celimontana 2021

100 free concerts featuring talented Italian and international artists: for three months, the enchanting villa on the slopes of the Celio Hill – one of the most popular public parks in Rome – is once again the host venue of the summer festival dedicated to the vitality and creative energy of jazz and swing music.

Now in its sixth edition, the Festival pays tribute this year to Louis Armstrong, a musical genius with a very modern and unmistakable style, an ambassador of jazz in the world and a symbol of racial emancipation. There are many initiatives dedicated to “Satchmo”, with two particular dates: on 6 July, 50 years after his death, with the couple of trumpet players Lorenzo Soriano and Davide Richichi; and on 4 August, on the 120th anniversary of his birth, with the duo Ella & Louis with Stefano Abitato and Clara Simonoviez celebrating the great trumpet player and singer. The story of the golden age of jazz is also entrusted to the Dixieland Street Parades and to an exhibition of vintage playing instruments from the Maccarese sax museum.

There are also numerous recurring events. On Sundays, “Bevo solo Rock’n’roll” is the evening dedicated to the fifties with free dance lessons and the protagonists of Roman rock’n’roll. Every Monday, Greg brings a different show to the stage, while Tuesday is dedicated to the “Swing Swing Swing” evening with Lindy hop, Charleston and Tip Tap lessons. Every Friday evening, before the main concert, “Live Mood” stages a show built with different performances of varying lengths. Finally, the new entry for this year’s edition are the Saturday and Sunday brunches “Storia e Musica” and “Soul Mood”.
