One of Feydeau's most famous comedies, Tailor for ladies, is on stage at the Nino Manfredi Theater in Ostia, directed by Marco Belocchi.
Performed for the first time in 1886 at the Théâtre de la Renaissance in Paris, Tailor for ladies (Tailleur pour dames) by Georges Feydeau, is a comedy in three acts - indeed a true vaudeville - characterized by brilliant and ambiguous plots, which boasts countless stagings and even some film adaptations, and which is perhaps the funniest of all his very successful pièces.
The plot describes the attempts of Dr. Moulineaux, an important Parisian doctor, to meet his lover, Suzanne Aubin, without either his wife or her husband being able to discover their affair. To this end, the doctor, thanks to the help of his clumsy and uncooperative friend Bassinet, rents a small apartment previously occupied by a seamstress, to use for his love affairs. As soon as he and his lover settle into the apartment, however, the esteemed doctor finds himself involved in a succession of extravagant and unwanted visitors: from his mother-in-law to his lover's husband, from the owner of the place to the seamstress's clients, from an ex-lover of his to his wife herself.
All these intruders drag Moulineaux into a vortex of lies, stratagems, plot twists, hilarious misunderstandings and frenetically paced daring situations. In this staging, following the director's choice, the adaptation of the dialogues has been made slightly more modern, thus favoring the immediacy of the language and usability by today's audience, the setting moved just a few years forward, to the early twentieth century, while the soundtrack is original and underlines the most salient and entertaining moments, contributing to the rhythm of this brilliant comedy with perfect mechanisms.
Adaptation by Giorgio Caprile; directed by Marco Belocchi; Ass. Cult. Company Genta Rosselli ETS and MC Sipario Theatrical Productions. With Max Pisu, Chiara Salerno, Marco Belocchi, Giorgio Caprile, Cristina Sarti, Valentina Maselli, Tania Lettieri, Luca Negroni.
