An inspiring journey through memorabilia, unique items, photos and videos. On the occasion of the 110th anniversary of the Italian Boxing Federation - FPI (founded in Milan on 2 March 1916), the exhibition at the Museo dello Sport of Piazza Navona, in the undergrounds of the Stadium of Domitian, highlights some of the most beautiful pages in the history of Italian boxing, the ancient and noble art of boxing mentioned by Homer in the Iliad and by St Paul in his First Letter to the Corinthians.
The exhibition is part of the project “Sport between History, Movement, Wellbeing and Culture” promoted by Roma Capitale and was created thanks to the collaboration with the FPI National Boxing Museum in Assisi. The exhibition brings to life the achievements and defeats of champions, examples and sources of inspiration for the media, cinema and television: from Primo Carnera, the first Italian heavyweight world champion in 1933, to Roberto Cammarelle’s three Olympic medals, from boxing legend Nino Benvenuti, world champion and historic gold medallist at the 1960 Rome Olympics, to the European belts of Emanuele Blandamura and Maria Moroni, the first female professional boxer in Italy.
The exhibition also presents an overview of the social and cultural activities that the Federation has launched in recent years and a touch of art, with Giulia Maglionico’s work #Provaciconme Pitbull Pink Power FPI, a strong and clear message on female empowerment that places boxing at the centre of the artistic work, combining boxing and art against violence against women.
