From 14 to 19 April, as part of the Doppio Sogno season of the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, the Teatro Nazionale hosts an evocative evening of ballet dedicated to the French dancer and choreographer, one of the most creative and innovative figures on the international contemporary scene.
The event opens with La Stravaganza, choreographed by Angelin Preljocaj in 1997 to music by Vivaldi, Evelyn Ficarra, Robert Normandeau, and Åke Parmerud, inspired by the choreographer’s personal experience of migration, against the backdrop of scenes by Maya Schweizer.
Following is Annonciation, an evocative female duet created by the choreographer in 1995, which, to the melodies of Crystal Music by composer Stéphane Roy and Vivaldi's Magnificat, brings to the stage the encounter between the Virgin Mary and the Archangel Gabriel.
The evening closes with the powerful Noces, created in 1989, which, to the music of Igor Stravinsky, explores the rite of marriage, starting with a blindfolded female figure at the centre of the stage.
On stage, with the contribution of Claudia De Smet and Natalia Naidich as choreography assistants, are the Étoiles, Principal Dancers, Soloists and Corps de Ballet of the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma: an exceptional cast that includes Alessandra Amato, Susanna Salvi, Alessio Rezza, Federica Maine, Marianna Suriano, Simone Agrò, Claudio Cocito and Michele Satriano, with splendid costumes by Hervé Pierre (La Stravaganza), Nathalie Sanson (Annonciation) and Caroline Anteski (Noces).
