Still Life

Paintings, sculptures, installations and photographs brought together in a collective exhibition that intertwines contemporary art, science, memory and ecology to offer a critical reflection on modes of representation and the fragility of existence through different disciplines, sensibilities and languages, addressing urgent issues such as cultural identity and the ethics of care. Promoted by Roma Capitale, Assessorato alla Cultura, Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali, the exhibition at the Museo Civico di Zoologia is a project by the Neworld ETS Association, which has long been active in promoting artistic and cultural practices that focus on the relationship between humans, landscape and environmental change.

The title of the exhibition plays on the apparent immobility of still life, revealing its ambiguity: what was once an exercise in style or symbolism is now transformed into a testimony to loss, the result of an increasingly compromised relationship between man and the environment. The exhibition unfolds along the permanent exhibition route on the first floor of the museum, in dialogue with the zoological collections. The display cases that house naturalistic specimens thus become spaces open to site-specific artistic interventions, capable of generating poetic, conceptual and critical connections. A significant section of the project is in the Sala della Balena - Whale Room on the ground floor, where the monumental presence of the cetacean skeleton intertwines with the artists' works, amplifying the comparison between contemporary art and scientific heritage.

The more than 40 works on display are by artists active on the national and international contemporary scene. These include Andrea Adany, Andrea&Rebecca, Teresa Bianchi, Elena Bonuglia Bunuel, Antonella Catini, Antonio Ceccarelli, Giacomo Di Corato (Tuan), Alexander Luigi Di Meglio, Antonella Laganà, Emanuela Mastria, Loredana Raciti, Giuliano Salaro, Loredana Salzano, Villő Steiner, Krisztina Szabó, Anna Tonelli, Ingrid van Woudenberg, and Klara Várhelyi.
