The free-entry photographic exhibition in pavilion 9 b of Rome’s Mattatoio is promoted by the Department of Culture of Roma Capitale and Azienda Speciale Palaexpo, under the patronage of the Embassy of Eritrea. The idea of the exhibition come from Smile Project, a non-profit organization that has been working in Eritrea for years to support local communities and raise public awareness of the importance of international cooperation and solidarity.
One of the association’s projects – a trip in the spring of 2025 involving a group of volunteers to promote greater awareness of Eritrean culture, highlighting its identity and uniqueness – gave rise to a visual reportage by internationally renowned Tuscan photographer Alessandro Moggi, who explores the world with a profound and sensitive approach.
Moggi’s photographs show a country of great strength and dignity, made up of everyday stories and small details that, together, compose a universe rich in culture and memory. Through his shots, the fruit of an aesthetic exploration grounded in respect, a travel story unfolds in silence, taking shape through the light, faces, dusty roads and gestures of a distant and little-known land.
