The Prometeo Quartet is once again the protagonist of the second appointment dedicated to the complete series of Quartets for strings by Dmitrij Šostakovič (1906-1975), in the historic setting of the Argentina Theater.
Composed over a period of time ranging from 1938 to 1974, the 15 Šostakovič String Quartets cross a very important part of the history of Russia in the twentieth century, which goes from the Second World War to the first signs of relaxation of the Cold War. The Quartets are affected both by the era in which they were composed, and by the personal experience of the musician and composer, protagonist of great changes. In this second appointment the Quartet n.4 in D major op.83 (1949) and the Quartet n.5 in B flat major op.92 (1952) are performed.
Winner of the 50th edition of the Prague Spring International Music Competition in 1998, the Prometeo Quartet has twice obtained the Bärenreiter special prize at the ARD Competition in Munich and the Silver Lion at the Venice Biennale 2012. It currently represents one of the most important ensembles of the international music scene.
With Giulio Rovighi first violin, Aldo Campagnari second violin, Danusha Waskiewicz on viola, Francesco Dillon on cello.
The concert is part of the review "Chamber music from baroque to contemporary" supported by the Lazio Region with the 2022 Single Fund on Live Entertainment.
