At the Argentina theater this extraordinary show is on stage, born from the pen of Henrik Ibsen, with the direction of Massimo Popolizio, acclaimed by more than 17,000 spectators for 31 performances in the past theater season, which has as protagonists two brothers divided by a merciless political clash.
Popolizio presents us a text of classical theater updated by contemporary themes, which sets not in Norway in 1882, but in an American county of the 1920s. In fact, a thermal plant has been built in the city, offering work to the inhabitants of a poor country.
But, at this point, a political and moral conflict arises between two brothers: the doctor Thomas Stockmann, impersonated by the same Popolizio, director of the plant, and the mayor Peter Stockmann, masterfully interpreted by Maria Paiato in men's clothes. In fact, Thomas discovers that the thermal waters pollute the territory and his brother Peter, a dishonest politician, tries in vain to convince him not to report the incident, to safeguard his personal interest behind the seeming general welfare.
At the center of the piece therefore, we find corrupt political power and environmental contamination, very current issues in the contemporary world, involving deeply the spectators.
