The 2026-27 musical season at the Argentina Theatre opens with the project of the Filarmonica Soloists: the Italian-Russian conductor Sieva Borzak leads the new formation in its debut in Gustav Mahler's Fourth Symphony in the transcription for chamber orchestra and soprano solo by Klaus Simon (solo voice Désirée Giove).
Composed in Vienna between 1899 and 1900, the Symphony No. 4 in G major for orchestra and soprano solo (Das Himmlische Leben, or The Heavenly Life) completes the group of three so-called Wunderhorn Symphonies (Magic Horn Symphonies), a cycle of poems and folk songs published in three volumes from 1805 to 1808, in which the protagonist is a mythical world, a bit fairytale-like, childlike, and peasant, a small, lost earthly paradise. The Symphony embodies many of Mahler's signature elements: the variety and blend of styles, irony, the intertwining of contrasting moods, idealistic elan and desperate dejection, utopian exultation and the anguish of defeat, and the looming threat of death.
