Complementing the system of public libraries, Rome’s network of study rooms has been designed to provide spaces dedicated to reading, studying and socialising (free of charge and open to all) within museums, cultural venues and redeveloped public spaces. Spread throughout the city, both in the historic center and in the outlying neighborhoods, the study rooms are accessible and welcoming public facilities that showcase Rome’s cultural heritage and local experiences.
Opened in April 2026, to mark the Festival of the Resistance, the Casa del Popolo di Valle Aurelia is situated in the historic Borghetto dei Fornaciai of Valle Aurelia, between the Park of Monte Ciocci and the Pineto Park. The building preserves the memory of the Roman Resistance, as evidenced by the plaque dedicated to the “Martiri Fornaciai”. Due to the presence of 18 active kilns, this area was historically inhabited by working-class people, and became the epicenter of socialist movements and strong proletarian and anarchist ideals that remained alive even during the years of Fascism.
The study room is a valuable meeting place for the whole of the Aurelio neighborhood. The space has been designed to ensure that people with mobility impairments can access and use it independently, and features 36 workstations for studying, working and co-working, equipped with sockets to keep laptops, tablets and smartphones charged at all times, as well as fast, free internet access.
