Triumphs e Laments - Opera site-specific di William Kentridge

Triumphs and Laments / Opera site-specific di William Kentridge

Tevereterno and William Kentridge are on show at the Valle Theater with the original Beyond Triumphs and Laments initiative; this is in fact the title of the creative rewriting project of Kentridge's work, to be implemented on the walls of the Tiber, with the same themes and techniques, by new artists.

The exhibition recreates, through an unprecedented artistic project and installations, the Roman river space of Piazza Tevere and of the five hundred meter long frieze that is found on the Tiber walls, a work by the South African artist and which includes 80 painted figures, up to 10 meters, in the stretch between Ponte Sisto and Ponte Mazzini. The images represent, in the interpretation of Kentridge, characters and historical facts that have marked the millennial history of Rome from the classical age up to modern events.

The initiative, organized by the Tevereterno Association and the Teatro di Roma celebrates the anniversary of the great work three years after its inauguration.
The exhibition route is structured as follows: in the first section located in the first two entrance areas of the theatre (foyer and ex-bar), the lungotevere is shown with the images of the artist with Piazza Tevere by Valeria Sassanelli for the Tevereterno Association, which tells the next site-specific and social art project Beyond Triumphs and Laments with Gianluca Rame's videos.

While in the second section of the exhibition, located in the audience of the Valle, the luminous images of the multimedia installation What I do not remember : by the artists Luca Brinchi and Daniele Spanò, who transfer the transposition into the room video of the work, through a choreography for wind, figures and sounds. The visitor is thus faced with light curtains moved by puffs of air that host the images and sounds of wind instruments, in order to transform the theater almost into a living organism, in constant correspondence with the river of Rome.
