Short Theatre 2021 - 16th edition

Ten days of music, theater, dance, performances and installations, DJ sets, meetings and public art projects, with a preview at the Royal Academy of Spain on 2 September: Short Theater is the performing arts festival that has been crossing Rome and the world of contemporary creation since 2006, bringing together artists, theorists, musicians, poetesses, authors, collectives and spectators reflecting the different souls of the city. The many events of the 2021 edition, entitled The Voice This Time, are as always scattered in different spaces of the city, including WEGIL and La Pelanda - Mattatoio di Roma, the Teatro Argentina, the Teatro India and the Teatro Lido di Ostia.

From 3 to 5 September, WEGIL hosts CRATERE, a space animated by a collective flow of voices, sounds, poems, bodies and vibrations, between theory, performative practice, sound research, musical experimentation and spoken poetry. The program also includes performances that are more purely dance, as well as musical: Dumy Moyi by the eclectic and radical French artist François Chaignaud, among the most important international presences of the festival, the live set of the stateless diva Lafandawh and the concert of the chameleon and irreverent Ivo Dimchev.

From 6 to 11 September, Reclaim Your Future, an installation of flags presented by the public art project CHEAP Street Poster Art, transforms the outdoor spaces of the Pelanda, home to sound, music, live and DJ sets. Among the guests, Cherish Menzo, a Dutch artist of Surinamese origins, the Chilean-Mexican choreographer Amanda Piña and the choreographer and performer Alessandro Carboni. At the Pelanda Short Theater also presents a series of projects that investigate the relationship between past and present, collective history and individual history, identity and belonging, with the highly anticipated return to the festival by Korean performer and director Jaha Koo.

From 9 to 12 September, but with reruns until 23 September, Teatro India hosts the debut of Tutto brucia by Motus, a co-production of the Teatro di Roma - Teatro Nazionale that evokes in the title the words of Cassandra in the rewriting of the Trojan women by Jean Paul Sartre. The closing of the festival is at the Teatro Argentina with the overwhelming African-American artist and choreographer Nora Chipaumire who presents one of the 8 chapters of Nehanda for the first time in Europe.
