Romeo and Juliet

Romeo e Giulietta-Foto ufficiale Sito ufficiale del Globe Theatre

The most famous and represented tragedy by William Shakespeare, which tells about the unhappy and opposed love by the families of the two protagonists, is proposed in Gigi Proietti's version in a contemporary key with echoes that recall the past.

The play in five acts, composed by the bard between 1594 and 1596, is in fact set in its first part in our days: Mercutio and Romeo's friends are represented as today's boys who entrust their emotions to rap music. Giulietta is a girl from a good family who sings and plays rock music.

But slowly, after the meeting between the two protagonists at the dance party, the story becomes a game of references and reflections of past eras, until the final tragedy of love and death that breaks the two lives of adolescents.

The actors chosen for the play are very young to underline the distance between present and past generations and their lack of communication, yesterday as today.

In this version we see Shakespeare's work renewing itself while remaining, at the same time, always faithful to itself.
