The now traditional international exhibition 100 Nativity Scenes in the Vatican, which takes place every year under Bernini's Colonnade in St. Peter's Square, is now in its eighth edition.
The display, organised by the Dicastery for Evangelisation, is one of the many cultural initiatives of the Il Giubileo è cultura (The Jubilee is Culture) exhibition, which has accompanied both the preparation and the various initiatives of the Holy Year 2025.
The exhibition 100 Nativity Scenes in the Vatican aims to evangelise through the image of the Nativity scene, which carries a great message of hope and peace for the whole world.
Each work is a small masterpiece created with passion and care, the fruit of the imagination and creativity of artists and craftsmen. However, the exhibitors also include amateurs, children, schoolchildren, national and international organisations, and embassies.
Pope Francis, in his Apostolic Letter on the meaning and value of the nativity scene, Admirabile Signum, emphasised that: by being born in a nativity scene, God himself begins the only true revolution that gives hope and dignity to the dispossessed, the marginalised, no one excluded.
Through the meaningful representation of the Nativity scene, God speaks eloquently to all people, reminding us that in the simplicity of the cradle lies the essence of life and the source of our salvation.
