Venanzio Crocetti's dance student. The return

L'allieva di danza di Venanzo Crocetti. Il ritorno-Foto: sito ufficiale della Galleria d’Arte Moderna di Roma Capitale

The exhibition at the Galleria d'Arte Moderna in Rome, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture - Central Institute for Restoration and the Venanzo Crocetti Foundation, presents the sculpture by Venanzo Crocetti which, after about two years of careful and specialized restoration by of the ICR technicians, returns to the GAM.

Acquired in 1960 by the City of Rome following the VIII National Art Quadrennial, the work represents one of Crocetti's first large-format sculptures dedicated to the theme of dance which already appears in various sketches from the 1940s and which, starting end of the fifties, it becomes a rather recurring theme within his production but also a source of inspiration for many figurative sculptors of the second half of the twentieth century.

Born in Giulianova in 1918, Venanzio Crocetti demonstrated his great artistic talents from an early age. After moving to Rome in 1928, he won the national sculpture competition announced by the Accademia di San Luca in 1932. In 1934 he participated in the Venice Biennale and, later, in the most important exhibitions and events in Italy as well as in the Italian Art Exhibition Paris. He also combined his artistic activity with teaching: in 1946 he was entrusted with the chair of sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, inheriting it from his master Arturo Martini. In Rome, the Venanzo Crocetti Museum was dedicated to him.
