Più libri più liberi. Fiera Nazionale della Piccola e Media Editoria 2025

From 4 to 8 December, La Nuvola will host Più libri più liberi (Rome Bool Fair), the National Fair for Small and Medium sized Publishers, a five-day event dedicated to books and reading, involving 569 publishers from all over Italy, with 700 events and writers from all over the world.

The theme for 2025 is Ragioni e sentimenti (Senses and Sensibilities), a way to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen's birth with an explicit reference to the novel that paved the way for modern fiction.

Writers, translators, journalists and scholars will take turns recounting their own and others' passion for one of the greatest writers who ever lived, including: Edoardo Prati with a focus on feelings, Letizia Pezzali on economics, Angela Frenda on cooking, Gaja Cenciarelli on the concept of home, Ben Pastor on Jane Austen and literary genres, Susanna Basso and Isabella Pasqualetto on linguistic choices in different translations, Giovanni Peresson from the AIE Research Department with a story on the persistence of Jane Austen's publications on the Italian market, Lorenzo Gasparrini will talk about Darcy and Simone Lenzi, starting from Dionisotti and Moretti, will talk about geography in Austen's literature, Annalisa De Simone on how to become people suited to the world thanks to Jane Austen, and Edoardo Pisani on what Jane Austen leaves to her readers.

Giovanna Zucca, whose novel Il segreto di Miss Austen (Miss Austen's Secret) has just been published, will moderate the meetings.

Don't miss the panel Tra ragione e sentimento: io sono la lingua che parlo (Between reason and feeling: I am the language I speak), organised by the linguistics departments of the University of Naples L'Orientale and the University of Bologna, with Valeria Caruso, Nicola Grandi and Francesca Masini, who will take the audience on a journey between two visions of language: the one that allows us to think and the one that defines our identity.

The Società italiana delle storiche [Italian Society of Women Historians] (SISEM) also returns to the fair with a meeting entitled Strategie del desiderio. Ragione e sentimento nelle carte della Serenissima [Strategies of desire. Sense and sensibility in the papers of the Serenissima] with Tiziana Plebani and Andrea di Robilant, introduced by Lisa Roscioni.

Inside the Nuvola, there will be plenty of opportunities to meet many personalities from the worlds of culture, entertainment and information, including Jovanotti, Zerocalcare with Marianna Aprile and Alessandro Barbero.

Più libri più liberi is promoted and organised by the Associazione Italiana Editori (Italian Publishers Association), with the support of the Centro per il libro e la lettura (Centre for Books and Reading) of the Ministry of Culture, the Lazio Region, Roma Capitale, the Camera di Commercio di Roma (Rome Chamber of Commerce) and ICE-Agenzia per la promozione all'estero e l'internazionalizzazione delle imprese italiane (Italian Trade Agency), with the contribution of SIAE – Società Italiana degli Autori ed Editori (Italian Society of Authors and Publishers), Poste Italiane and BPER Banca. It is produced in collaboration with Istituzione Biblioteche di Roma, ATAC (Rome's public transport company), EUR Spa and Dior, and benefits from the Main Media Partnership of Rai with Giornale della Libreria. The event is chaired by Annamaria Malato and directed by Fabio Del Giudice. The programme is curated by Chiara Valerio.
