Officially started with the opening of the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica on 24 December 2024, the Jubilee 2025 is the 27th ordinary universal jubilee in the history of the Church and the second jubilee inaugurated by Pope Francis after the extraordinary one in 2015.
The entire jubilee period is characterized by a rich calendar of religious, cultural and social events. Aside from celebrations and rituals addressed to all the faithful, the Holy Year’s program includes several “jubilees” dedicated to different categories of people, identified according to specific professions or their role within the family, the Church and society. Each one includes moments of dialogue and spirituality, with a concluding mass celebrated by the pope or a delegate.
In order to engage the entire prison population in the Jubilee of Hope, the first holy door opened by Pope Francis after that of St. Peter’s was in Rome’s Rebibbia prison. The last themed event of the Jubilee year is dedicated to prisoners: a day of prayer and solidarity to which prisoners and their families, prison staff and volunteers working within the prison system are invited to participate. The Jubilee for Prisoners will take place on Sunday 14 December. At 9 a.m., it will be possible to make a pilgrimage to the Holy Door of St Peter’s Basilica, while at 10 a.m., the Pope will preside over the celebration of Holy Mass in St Peter’s Basilica.
The program is subject to change.
