Palazzo Difesa

The Army Palace is a palace in Rome located in via Venti Settembre 123, in the Castro Pretorio district. It is the seat of the General Staff of the Italian Army and since 22 February 2017 also of the Defense General Staff.

Palazzo Impero was built in 1876, taking the name of the Ministry of War, on an area where the churches of San Caio, Santa Teresa and dell'Incarnation once stood. The project is the work of two soldiers, Captain Bernardini and Colonel Garaviglie.

The building has a rectangular plan with five internal courtyards of different sizes.

On the main floor of the palace are the Sala del Balilla and the Sala della Vittoria Alata, two elegant rooms furnished with fine furniture and paintings depicting salient moments in the history of Italy.
