Located in a unique and evocative setting in the heart of Villa Borghese, the Study Room at the Pietro Canonica Museum is equipped with 8 comfortable workstations, free Wi-Fi and charging sockets for electronic devices. The space, which is also ideal for coworking, is accessible for free during the Museum's opening hours from Tuesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The Study Rooms are conceived to offer citizens new spaces dedicated to reading, studying and socialising in some of Rome's most evocative locations. The initiative is part of a larger project to create a network of Capitoline study rooms, complementary to the civic library system. The project of the network of study rooms was born with the aim of guaranteeing accessible and welcoming spaces for citizens, enhancing the cultural heritage of the city.
Pietro Canonica Museum
A turn-of-the-century atmosphere reigns in this small but precious museum dedicated to Pietro Canonica (1869-1959), internationally renowned sculptor, music lover and composer.
Already famous in the courts of the European aristocracy, he moved to Rome in 1922 and in 1927 was granted by the City Council the use of the building that now houses the museum to make it his home-studio. In return, the artist pledged to donate, after his death, all the works he had collected there over the years so that it would become a museum named after him. Hence the uniqueness of this space, which gives us the image of this artist in his entirety, human as well as professional.
The Museum is housed in the Fortezzuola (Little Fortress), the old ‘Pollaio’ (Chicken House) used to breed ostriches, peacocks and ducks. The private flat on the first floor is rich in precious furniture and paintings from 19th-century Piedmont and tells the story of the artist's personal memories and affections. On the ground floor, on the other hand, is the artist's studio and the rooms where most of his works can be admired. The library, with around 2,200 volumes, consists partly of the artist's private collection and partly of recently acquired publications and specialises in sculpture and fine arts of the 19th and 20th centuries. An extensive photographic archive is also available.
