Museo Francescano

The first core of the Franciscan Museum of the Historical Institute of Capuchins dates back to the nineteenth century collection by father Louis Antoine da Porrentruy kept at the Convent of the Capuchins of Marseilles. Part of the material, enriched by donations, was auctioned in 1905. Father Louis Antoine brought the remaining pieces to Rome, continuing his work of research and collection. In 1927 the collection was brought to the Historical Institute of the Order in Assisi. In 1954 the Institute was transferred to Rome where it occupies the current location at La Pisana since 1968. The collection that includes paintings, sculptures, ceramics, porcelains, incisions, reproductions of seals, is arranged on new large premises in order to provide a complete historical illustration of Franciscanism and of its founder.
