Fontana abbeveratoio di Benedetto XIV

The work consists of an oval granite pond and amask with valve that originally were parts of the trough placed in front of Julius the Third’s fountain. In the course of time the pond was subject to continual moves and restorations. In 1750 Benedict the Fourteenth Lambertini (1740-1758) restored the flow of water that had been interrupted, in order to provide water to the pilgrims coming from the North on the occasion of the Jubilee. Lastly in 1965 the fountain was placed in its current position, leaning against a corrugated concrete wall, work by the architect Attilio Spaccarelli.
