Former Vittorio Locchi Boarding School Complex - Palazzo Mazzoni

Palazzo Mazzoni ph. courtesy Inps

The Vittorio Locchi boarding school, inaugurated on October 28, 1936, was originally intended for the daughters of employees of the Post-Telegraph Institute, primarily orphans. It was designed to train female students in various professional disciplines: sewing, tailoring, embroidery, weaving, even photography, gardening, and telegraphy.

The complex stands on a hill on the eastern edge of Garbatella. In Roman times, the area bordered the Almone River and housed a suburban agricultural complex of villas and farmhouses, complete with necropolises and cisterns. The Institute's first president, Roberto De Vito, commissioned its construction to celebrate his tenth anniversary as president. The project was entrusted to architect Angiolo Mazzoni del Grande in 1935.

Since February 26, 2025, the renovated complex has been home to the INPS Training Academy.
