It was built in the first half of the 20th century to a design by architect Tullio Rossi.
The church is the seat of the parish of the same name, established on 19 March 1937 by decree of Cardinal Vicar Francesco Marchetti Selvaggiani Providens mater ecclesia. The church is linked to the cardinal title of Santa Maria Madre della Provvidenza a Monte Verde, instituted by Paul VI on 29 April 1969.
The façade is preceded by a portico supported by five pillars, beneath which is the dedicatory inion in Latin: In hon. B. Mariae virginis Div. Providentiae Matris A.D. MCMXXXVII.
Inside, the church has three naves, separated by high arched pillars. It is dominated by the large fresco in the apse, painted by Igino Cupelloni, depicting Mary in glory, accompanied by angels and Gospel episodes. The Annunciation is depicted on the apsidal arch. The ceiling and walls of the nave are entirely covered with paintings by the same artist.
