The church was built in the early 1980s, designed by architect Eugenio Abruzzini, and was solemnly consecrated on 30 September 1984.The church is a parish seat, established on 18 March 1968 by Cardinal Vicar Angelo Dell'Acqua with the decree Quotidianis curis. It is also the seat of the cardinal title of San Frumenzio ai Prati Fiscali, instituted by Pope John Paul II on 28 June 1988.The church has a semicircular plan and is divided into three areas: a first area with descending steps, a second area with fixed seats, and a third area (the presbytery) that is flat. The apse is decorated with a series of seven icons, which make up the Deesis: in the centre is the icon of Christ Enthroned; to his right are the icons of the Virgin Mary, Archangel Michael and St. Peter; to his left are the icons of St. John the Baptist, Archangel Gabriel and St. Paul.At the foot of the ambo are two panels by the same iconographer, depicting the Annunciation of Ustjug, the original of which dates back to the 12th century. To the left of the pulpit, hanging from the ceiling, is the icon of the Living Christ, a newly inscribed crucifix. All the icons, made in Slavic-Byzantine technique, are the work of the iconographer Luciana Siotto. The walls of the church are embellished with the stations of the Via Crucis by the Franciscan priest Andrea Martini; to the traditional 14 stations, the author wanted to add another 4 stations, linked to evangelical episodes. They are made of fiberglass and are the sketches of the bronze works exhibited in the church of San Gaspare del Bufalo. The church preserves some statues of saints by Martini himself.
